Work in progress: Leeaky flags potential fees to check, but hasn’t saved anyone real money yet. Treat the numbers you see as estimates, not guarantees.

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2, 2026

This is a general template describing how the app actually works, not legal advice. Bracketed items should be filled in and this page reviewed by a legal professional before being relied on.

What data Leeaky collects

Leeaky does not have user accounts and does not run a backend database. There is no sign-up, no password, and no email address collected by the app itself.

The trips, expenses, and settings (like your home currency) you enter are stored only in your own browser’s local storage, on your device. Entering them does not send them anywhere.

Scanning a receipt is the one exception. If you use the receipt scanner, that photo is sent to a Leeaky server so an AI provider can read it. The server does not store the photo, does not write it to a database, and does not log the image or anything read from it — it holds the image only for as long as the scan takes, then discards it. The amounts and merchant details that come back are saved to your browser’s local storage, like anything else you enter.

Third-party services used

Exchange rates are fetched from a third-party API (open.er-api.com) so the app can show currency conversions. This request does not include any of your personal data, it is a plain lookup of current rates.

Receipt scanning sends the photo to OpenAI, which reads it and returns the amount, currency, date, and merchant. The request is sent with storage disabled, which asks OpenAI not to retain it. [Confirm OpenAI’s current API data-retention terms before relying on this — API requests may still be held briefly for abuse monitoring.] If you never scan a receipt, no image is ever sent to OpenAI.

The site uses a privacy-friendly, cookie-less analytics service (Vercel Analytics) to understand aggregate usage, such as which pages are visited. It does not use tracking cookies and is not used to identify individual visitors.

Cookies

Leeaky does not set its own cookies.

Your control over your data

Because your data lives in your browser, you control it directly. Clearing your browser’s site data for Leeaky, or using the in-app options to delete an expense or clear sample data, removes it. Leeaky keeps no server-side copy to separately request deletion of — receipt photos are discarded once the scan finishes and are never written to disk.

Children's privacy

Leeaky is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

If how the app handles data changes in a meaningful way, for example a future account or backend feature, this page will be updated to reflect it.
